Hot Sauce

Pizza is one of the most versatile foods ever created, consisting as it does of a bread dough base and toppings of sauce, meat, and veggies that are limited only by the imagination. But one condiment that is rarely used on pizza but should be more often is hot sauce.

Is pizza an odd food item to add hot sauce too? Perhaps, but you will find that a little dash of kicked-up pepper juice will be just the thing to bring that Friday night staple up to the next level.

Many people will just take a meat lover’s pizza, with pepperoni and Italian sausage, and add some Louisiana Hot Sauce or Sriracha sauce before putting it into the oven. The results will taste great and will add an extra bite. But with a little imagination, you can remake the standard pizza into something new.

Instead of tomato sauce, use barbeque sauce as the base. Then use chopped barbecue brisket, pulled pork, or sliced links as the toppings. Throw in some chopped onions and peppers. Then, instead of the standard mozzarella and parmesan cheese, used shredded smoked Gouda or Monterrey jack. Then splash your favorite hot sauce on top, bake, slice, and serve as usual.

The same approach works for an Asian-style approach. Use stir-fry chicken and veggies as toppings and then a Thai pepper sauce to kick the whole thing up.

The point of the exercise is that hot sauce-enhanced pizza will make a dish you have likely enjoyed since childhood into something new and wonderful.
